- SLMASA10 – A Decade of Prestige, Excellence & Community Legacy
The year 2025 marked a truly momentous milestone for the Sri Lankan Muslims Association of South Australia (SLMASA), our grand 10th Anniversary. What began as a modest collective of families seeking belonging and cultural continuity has evolved into one of South Australia’s most vibrant, respected, and impactful multicultural community organisations. To honour this extraordinary achievement, the SLMASA 2025 Committee curated a celebration unlike any before: SLMASA10 an afternoon of refinement, elegance, and timeless grandeur.
A Vision of Luxury Brought to Life
True to the spirit of innovation and community elevation, the SLMASA 2025 committee has always endeavoured to present events that are meaningful, immersive, and truly memorable. During the planning stages of 2025, the concept of a grand ball–style luncheon began to form, opulent, polished, and dignified. When we realised that this year marked our official 10-year anniversary, inspiration unfolded into a magnificent symphony of celebration.
SLMASA10 was not just an event, it was an experience curated with exquisite detail. Guests arrived in stunning couture and tailored suits, with grace and presence that matched the occasion. Our carefully selected theme, black and silver, created an atmosphere of sophisticated glamour, and design, every visual moment curated to perfection.
A Venue of Prestige
The celebration took place on 2 November 2025 at the iconic Burnside Ballroom, renowned for its historic architecture. The grand hall, dressed in a palette of glistening silver and deep black elegance, truly set the stage for an occasion defined by poise, grandeur and ceremonial brilliance.
Distinguished Guests of Honour
We were privileged to host several eminent leaders who not only represent the fabric of multicultural South Australia but who have continuously championed community collaboration:
- Hon. MP Zoe Bettison – Minister for Tourism and Multicultural Affairs
- Afra Prodan – Federal Agent, AFP / Leading Senior Constable, HECO for SA & NT
- Keith Walter – Federal Agent / Senior Constable, Community Liaison Team for SA & NT
- Ahmed Zreika – President, Islamic Society of South Australia
Their presence elevated the significance of the day and reflected SLMASA’s established place within South Australia’s multicultural framework.
A Decade Reflected
Following Luhar prayers, our founding president and esteemed elder Mr. Nazli Farook delivered a dignified and deeply memorable retrospective. His address outlined the humble beginnings of SLMASA, the challenges surmounted, cornerstone achievements, and the remarkable transformation into an influential, service-oriented community body.
Recognising Contribution & Commitment
The Hon. MP Zoe Bettison blessed the gathering with thoughtful and heartfelt sentiments, acknowledging the profound contribution of migrants to the Australian identity and applauding SLMASA’s unwavering commitment to community service, social cohesion, and cultural preservation. A commemorative memento was presented to her as a gesture of gratitude and refined appreciation.
Safeguarding Our Future
Our distinguished guest Afra Prodan shared a highly informative presentation on her extensive roles within the AFP, from the National Anti-Gangs Squad to her current position as Human Exploitation Community Officer. She offered crucial insights into online safety, digital wellbeing, and the protection of our youth, empowering families with knowledge to navigate the modern digital world securely and confidently.
Honouring Legacy & Celebrating Leadership
Among the most treasured moments of the event was the honouring of pivotal senior community figures whose dedication cultivated the foundation on which SLMASA stands today. Prestigious awards were presented to:
- Nazli Farook

- Tuan Jamion

- Farzan Aboosaheed

- Nasmi Jameel

While we reflected upon the contributions of our pioneers, we also recognised the brilliance rising within the younger generation. A special award was presented to Nazha Nasmi for her exceptional dedication and volunteer leadership, a symbolic nod to the promising future that awaits SLMASA.
A Culinary Affair of Delight
A celebration of this grandeur deserved cuisine of matching refinement. Guests were served an indulgent banquet featuring fragrant biriyani, curated sides, and elegant desserts, abundant, flavoursome, and beautifully presented.
Words That Inspire, Bonds That Strengthen
Post-lunch, Ahmed Zreika, President of ISSA, shared words of encouragement and solidarity, affirming his continued support and unwavering partnership with SLMASA. His leadership and benevolence have been pillars of communal strength throughout the years.
A Year of Achievement, A Decade of Legacy
To conclude the program, SLMASA President Mr.Aakyl Haniffa delivered a refined overview of the year’s accomplishments. The retrospective illustrated the diversity of events hosted in 2025, from charity initiatives to cultural showcases, youth engagement, networking forums, and community development programs. Each event stitched another thread into the fabric of unity that SLMASA continues to build so passionately. In his closing remarks, the President also extended special gratitude to Mr. Jeza Amanulla of Jeza Plan Managers for generously sponsoring towards the venue hire for this grand occasion.
An Era Defined, A Legacy Continued
SLMASA10 was more than an anniversary celebration. It was a statement of legacy, dignity, and community evolution. It invited reflection, inspired gratitude, and reaffirmed our commitment to the next decade ahead.
Ten years of service. Ten years of unity. Ten years of heritage upheld with honour. As SLMASA moves forward, we carry with us the elegance of this milestone, the strength of our community, and the promise of an ever-brightening future. The legacy continues!
