- The Sisterhood Soirée
The Sri Lankan Muslim Community of South Australia recently hosted a beautiful ladies’ gathering, bringing together women from across the community for a day filled with sisterhood, laughter, learning and meaningful connection. The event embraced a beautiful floral and pastel theme, with the hall elegantly decorated by dedicated volunteers who created a warm, welcoming and visually beautiful setting for all the ladies to enjoy.

The event was a wonderful opportunity for women to come together, step away from their everyday routines and enjoy a memorable day surrounded by friends, family and fellow members of the community. The gathering was filled with a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with many women attending and taking part in the activities throughout the day.
A special highlight of the programme was an inspiring Islamic reminder delivered by Sister Nazha Nazmi, who spoke about the Sahabah – companions of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). Her speech provided an opportunity for everyone to reflect on the lives, sacrifices, faith and dedication of the Sahabah and to take valuable lessons from their examples.

SLMASA always strives to put every little effort into encouraging, supporting and empowering women to succeed in what they do. As part of this event, ladies were invited to showcase their businesses and talents through their own stalls, providing them with a wonderful opportunity to promote their work, connect with the community and reach new customers.
The day featured a variety of stalls, giving everyone an opportunity to browse, shop and enjoy some traditional experiences. This included ‘TYLEE’ by Leena Uzman, offering a beautiful selection of hijabs; a live Mehendi stall by Shuhada, where ladies could enjoy intricate henna designs; and a homemade bake and treats stall by young entrepreneur Safia, who was proudly supported by her mother, Sharmin Rizwan.

SLMASA is proud to provide a platform where women can showcase their creativity, skills and businesses, while encouraging one another and contributing to a stronger and more supportive community.
Of course, no ladies’ gathering would be complete without some fun and games! The ladies and children enthusiastically participated in group games, which brought plenty of laughter, teamwork and friendly competition. There was also a fun “Guess the Number” game, where participants had to guess the number of bubble gums inside a jar. It was a simple game that created plenty of excitement as everyone tried to get as close as possible to the correct number. The event was filled with fun, with gifts presented to the winners of the various games. A ‘Best Dressed’ competition also added to the excitement, giving the ladies an opportunity to embrace the floral and pastel theme and showcase their creativity and style.
Food was another highlight of the day. Lunch was served with a delicious mandi, accompanied by a variety of sides. The meal brought everyone together around the table and added to the sense of community and togetherness.
Later, the gathering continued with a delightful selection of Syrian desserts and a beautifully arranged high-tea setup by sister Zumra. The table featured an assortment of short eats, sweet treats and, of course, tea, creating the perfect setting for the ladies to sit together, chat and enjoy one another’s company.
More than just an event, the gathering was a celebration of community, faith and sisterhood. From the Islamic reminder and shared meals to the games, stalls and conversations, every part of the day created opportunities for women to connect with one another and strengthen the bonds within the Sri Lankan Muslim community in South Australia. As a special token of appreciation, all the ladies received a little decorative charm as a souvenir, along with a frame featuring a thoughtful message from SLMASA. The children were also delighted with lollie bags prepared especially as gifts for them.
The smiles, laughter and joyful conversations throughout the day reflected the beauty of coming together as a community. It was a memorable occasion filled with faith, friendship, delicious food and plenty of happy moments a day that many of the ladies will surely remember with fondness.
