Eid Community Night & Dinner 2026

The Sri Lankan Muslims Association of South Australia (SLMASA) proudly hosted its annual Eid Al-Adha Community Night & Dinner on Sunday, 14th June 2026, at the Fullarton Park Community Centre. The event brought together families and community members for a memorable evening of celebration.

The evening commenced with a warm welcome and opening remarks by SLMASA Vice President Ibrahim Saleem, who extended Eid greetings to all attendees.A special highlight of the evening was the presence of distinguished guests, including Mr. Dimuthu Samaranayake, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in South Australia, and Mr. Nasir Hussain, Diversity Advocate, President of the Muslim Australian Connections of South Australia (MACSA), and Board Member of the Multicultural Communities Council of South Australia. Also joining the celebrations were Mr. Dasuntha Liyanage, President of the Adelaide Sri Lanka Buddhist Vihara, Mr. Lakshitha De Silva, Past President of the Sri Lankan Catholic Association of South Australia, Mr.Ravi Visidigama President of the Sri Lankan Catholic Association of South Australia and Mr. Nishantha Jayawardena, President of the Australia Sri Lanka Association (ASLA).Their presence reflected the strong bonds of friendship, mutual respect, and multicultural harmony among Sri Lankans in South Australia. It served as a powerful reminder that community connections transcend religious and cultural backgrounds and are strengthened through shared celebrations and meaningful engagement.
Mr. Dimuthu Samaranayake and Mr. Nasir Hussain delivered insightful addresses, emphasising the importance of community engagement, preserving cultural and religious identity, and contributing positively to broader Australian society. Mr. Dimuthu Samaranayake also shared information on consular services available to Sri Lankans in South Australia and encouraged continued community connection and commended SLMASA for its contributions in various multicultural events in SA.SLMASA President Mr. Aakyl Haniffa also addressed the gathering, reflecting on the association’s achievements over the past and reaffirming its commitment to serving and strengthening the Sri Lankan Muslim community in South Australia.

One of the most cherished segments of the evening was the “Welcoming New Faces” session, led by the President of SLMASA, Mr. Aakyl Haniffa. Newcomers and recently arrived families were invited to introduce themselves, share their backgrounds, and connect with fellow community members. This initiative remains a hallmark of SLMASA events, fostering inclusivity and helping new families feel at home.

A couple of minutes were allocated to the Sri Lankan Muslims Janaza Fund (SLMJF) members to deliver a few important messages and also making the opportunity to emphasis the importance of SLMJF and invite all new members to join SLMJF.

As formalities came to and end guests then enjoyed a delicious dinner featuring chicken 65 biriyani and mutton biriyani, followed by Gulab Jamun with ice cream for dessert. A beautifully prepared cake, lovingly made by Sister Nazha Nasmi, added a sweet touch to the celebrations and was warmly enjoyed by all.

The evening continued with a lively Kahoot quiz competition for adults, featuring questions on Sri Lankan culture, Islamic knowledge, FIFA World Cup, and general trivia. Participants enthusiastically engaged in friendly competition, while younger attendees enjoyed an energetic “Heads, Shoulders and Cup” game filled with laughter and excitement. Winners of the games were presented with gifts.

Throughout the evening, guests had the opportunity to reconnect with the community, meet new families, and strengthen the bonds that make the Sri Lankan Muslim community in South Australia so vibrant and welcoming. The event served as a meaningful reminder of the importance of coming together in celebration of faith, culture, and shared values.
