For most of us who grew up in Sri Lanka during the 80s and 90s, the name Muthuhara needs little introduction. It was a familiar part of our childhood, bringing together children and families through music, dance, entertainment and Sri Lankan culture. Muthuhara, which began on Sri Lanka Rupavahini in 1982, has been a beloved part of the childhood of generations of Sri Lankans. Muthuhara became a much-loved platform that celebrated creativity, talent and the richness of Sri Lankan culture. That connection and nostalgia continue today through Muthuhara International, which has established branches around the world, including in Adelaide.
Muthuhara Adelaide Turns 10
The Muthuhara Adelaide branch celebrated a significant milestone this year, marking its 10th anniversary with a special Muthuhara Night 2026 held on 26 September 2026 at Woodville Town Hall.
The celebration brought together families and members of the Sri Lankan community for an evening filled with food, entertainment and cultural activities. Food stalls, live entertainment, dance performances, family activities and many other attractions created a vibrant atmosphere throughout the evening.
Celebrating a Decade of SUCCESS
The ceremony featured speeches and presentations from several key members of Muthuhara Adelaide.
Kumudini De Silva, founder of the Muthuhara Adelaide branch, spoke about the journey and achievements of the branch over the past decade.
The Patron, Dr, Charitha Perera, also addressed the gathering and presented certificates and badges to new members and members of the executive committee.
Dimuthu Samaranayake, Counsel, spoke at the ceremony and presented awards recognising contributions to Muthuhara and the wider community.
A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of an appreciation award to Mrs. Hinaya Jamion, recognising her continuous support and valuable contributions to the community and Muthuhara Adelaide. It was a proud moment to see a member of our own community recognised for her dedication and service.
The 10th anniversary was also marked with the cutting of a special Kiribath, bringing everyone together to celebrate this important milestone. The evening beautifully reflected the spirit of Muthuhara, with children taking centre stage through dance and musical performances featuring Sri Lankan songs.
The celebration was not limited to the younger generation. Elders and volunteers also joined in the festivities, entertaining the audience with their own songs and performances, creating a wonderful intergenerational celebration of Sri Lankan culture.
SLMASA at Muthuhara Night
The Sri Lankan Muslims Association of South Australia (SLMASA) was honoured to be invited to this special celebration.
SLMASA Secretary Zaina Sallay attended the event and represented the Association, joining the Muthuhara Adelaide community in celebrating this significant 10-year milestone.
We congratulate Muthuhara Adelaide on reaching its 10th anniversary and acknowledge the dedication of its founders, committee members, volunteers, performers and the wider community who have contributed to its journey.
May Muthuhara Adelaide continue to inspire future generations of Sri Lankan children, preserve our cultural connections and bring families and communities together for many more years to come.
